Decision Making for Supervisors: From Gut to Strategy

Supervisors make dozens of decisions every day — under pressure, with incomplete information, and with real consequences for the people they lead. This three-hour webinar gives supervisors a practical toolkit for deciding more clearly and more confidently. Participants will explore eight decision-making frameworks, from how the brain processes fast and slow thinking to structured tools for crisis situations, and learn how to match the right approach to the right situation.

The webinar also addresses the forces that derail even experienced supervisors: groupthink, polarized thinking, and cognitive traps like the sunk cost effect. Through short videos, case examples, and a hands-on practice activity, participants will identify the ten most common decision-making mistakes and leave with a personal checklist they can use the next day..

As a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service, she supervised teams, managed large-scale programs, and successfully navigated the leadership, decision-making, and conflict-management challenges common to complex organizations. She holds a PhD and MSW in Social Work from The Catholic University of America, an SES (Senior Executive Service) Certificate from the USDA Graduate School, and a certificate in Leadership Coaching for Organizational Performance from Rutgers University. Known for her practical, real-world approach, Dr. Ashery provides supervisors with strategies they can apply immediately in the workplace.)

The Challenging Ethics of Mental Health Supervision

Supervisors are essential to the practice of mental health, but the supervisor’s role is a complicated one. Ethical considerations for supervisors can be very different from that of their supervisees. This training will explore the unique ethical considerations of supervisors, with special attention to the complications the supervisory role brings to boundaries. This course will provide a framework to contemplate ethical dilemmas and make informed decisions that insulate supervisors from compromising their liability while also supporting their supervisees and protecting clients from harm.

She has years of experience consulting with government and community based organizations to develop policy & practice standards.)

Participants will gain insights into commonly used tools such as telehealth platforms, AI-driven feedback systems, and electronic health records, alongside emerging technologies like symptom-tracking apps and predictive analytics.

This comprehensive 3-hour session provides supervisors with the knowledge to guide supervisees in adopting technology effectively, ensuring compliance with professional standards such as HIPAA and maintaining the human element in clinical practice. The course includes pre-recorded case examples, ethical scenario analyses, and structured planning exercises to empower supervisors to evaluate and implement tech solutions confidently. By the end of the training, participants will be prepared to create a strategic plan for integrating technology into their supervision practice, balancing innovation with client and supervisee needs.
